"I'll draw you a picture, and I'll think about it. We'll meet Again "

On March 24, 1971, Picasso returned Rouquette's call and asked him to visit him in Mougins. The meeting was almost postponed due to a memorable transportation strike that blocked all the roads. However, the threesome managed to get together and spend an afternoon thinking about the project, looking over the architect's plans, examining the layouts of the new rooms in the museum, the possible hangings, and all the opportunities offered by this beautiful space. From then on, the artist concentrated on what he wanted to say, what he had yet to say, on the moments he had to find in order to continue painting and finding new expressions given the urgency of fleeting time. Finally, Picasso said to Rouquette: "I'll make a drawing and think about it. We'll meet again." Lucien Clergue immortalized that moment: in the photograph, we see an amused Picasso, sketching in front of a smiling but concentrated Rouquette. Picasso allowed for these pictures to be taken because he appreciated the sincerity of Lucien Clergue's work. The photographer and the artist had respect for each other, and Clergue loved to capture the benevolence that emanated from the painter. Illustration Picasso-rouquette-1, 2, 3, 4
